Stirley Jones
Head Coach / Sprints
Interestingly enough, Coach Jones started his coaching career with college athletes. His first coaching position was at Santa Ana College. He was the Sprints Coach and Cross Country Coach. One of Coach Jones’ athletes concluded her season as a Top-Three Female Athlete of All Time in the Santa Ana College Record Book as a 400-meter hurdler. In addition, the women’s sprinter team posted faster times that had not been seen since 2005.
Coach Jones began his first high school coaching position in 2015-2016 at Marina High, where his athletes broke school records. Fifteen athletes made it to CIF, seven qualified for CIF finals, and one had a 5th place finish with the 4 x 1 relay at CIF finals. These athletes became league champions for the Sunset League. These kinds of accomplishments by athletes had not been seen at Marina High School since the late ’80s.
In 2017, Coach Jones moved to Los Alamitos High School Track and Field, and his athletes continued to break school records. He coached an Indoor Champion for the 600 meters and a 2022 CIF Champion for the 100 meters. In addition, he coached the state record holder for the freshman 100 meters, and he put together the SMR Team that won the Arcadia Night Invitational Section in 2018. His relay teams have won the seed section – in 2019 the 4×1 and in 2021 the 4×2 relays. Moreover, Coach Jones has coached league champions, and he has helped students achieve CIF, Masters and State Track Meet Qualifiers and Medalists. While Coach Jones was at Los Alamitos, 15 athletes broke school records, and 50 athletes made it into the All-Time Record Book. Moreover, numerous athletes transferred to the next level: division 1, 2, 3, NAIA, and junior college.
As a recognized multi-athlete, Coach Jones has played football, basketball and ran track and field. He still holds numerous records in the community college and university level. In 2015, Coach Jones was the USA Track and Field National Club Champion in the 200 meters. In the summer of 2016, he ran in the 200-meter race. This race qualified him to compete at the 2016 USA Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. In 2017, Coach Jones competed in the USA Outdoor Championship in Sacramento, California.
Coach Jones completed an Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Goldenwest Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with Sports Emphasis from Bristol University, and a Masters Degree in Education from North Central University.

Carl Myerscough
Discus & Shot Put
Coach Myerscough grew up in Lancashire in the UK and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 2004 with a degree in Fine Art. At Nebraska, he won 2 indoor and 2 outdoor NCAA Div1 titles in the shot put. After college, Coach Myerscough competed professionally in shot and discus for 12 years, attending 4 world championships and the Olympics in London 2012.Coach Myerscough aspires to help throwers achieve their best results and hopes to instill a hard work ethic, positive attitude, and a lifelong interest in health and fitness.Troy Haines

Linda Struiksma
Hurdles
I attended Valley Christian HS. While in high school, I played Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, and ran Track. I competed in the long jump, 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, 100m, 4×100 relay, and the 4×400 relay. Advanced to CIF all 4 years in high school and the last 3 years advanced to the finals,masters and state in the 100m hurdles,300m hurdles and 4x100relay. Set the CIF record for those 3 years for the 300m hurdles and 4x100relay for div 6 HS. I also hold the 300m hurdles record for my high school and was honored in 2016 with a banner in the gym. I went on to compete at CSULB for 2 years in the 100m hurdles,300m hurdles and the 3rd leg in the 4×100 relay. I received my bachelors degree in Nursing. During this time I went back to my high school to start the women’s soccer team and coach track and field. I worked with the sprinters and hurdlers and long jumpers. I coached track there for 15 years and in 2002, I took a break to enjoy watching my kids participate in high school sports. I also have been working in the PYLUSD for the last 15 years as a special Ed aide with middle schoolers and YLMS and now high schoolers here at YLHS.
Eric Wroblewski

Coach Eric brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his role. Having excelled as a high school cross-country runner, he continued his athletic journey with a year of college running before choosing to serve in the United States Army for 21 years.
After a distinguished military career, Coach Eric transitioned to coaching at the youth level, where he has shared his passion for running and personal development for three years. During this time, the Quick Track Club has achieved notable success, producing three top-three national placing teams and fostering the growth of over 20 All-Americans.Beyond the track, Coach Eric is deeply committed to the holistic development of his athletes. His focus extends beyond creating exceptional runners, aiming to shape even better young adults. This commitment to character development is reflected in his coaching philosophy and personal life. Coach Eric is a devoted family man, married with three daughters, all of whom have found success as accomplished youth runners.
